Polls show that support for the war against Iraq varies greatly. Maybe we are hanging around a homogeneous group of people, but we can't say we know a single person who is completely for the war. Some are completely against it, then views range close to moderate support... IF we had support from the U.N. We feel a war without U.N. security council approval and without broad-based international support is extremely wreckless and irresponsible. America doesn't always agree with the U.N., but the U.N.'s existence is a major step towards a global system of justice. This is important because America was founded on a similar system of justice. Our Constitution and our court system is based on equal rights and fair treatment by being judged by our peers. We don't elect a supreme King whose opinion overrides all others. If you are accused of a crime, you have the right to be judged by a jury of your peers. People may not always agree with the outcome, but the fact that diverse opinions are heard, and represented, makes the verdict more acceptable. This is the way the U.N. should work, but unfortunately America only listens to the U.N. when it wants to do so. It supports resolutions requiring weapons inspectors in nations such as Iraq, yet it ignores U.N. resolutions requiring Israel to do allow weapons inspectors into its country. This selective observation of U.N. rule does not bode well for future global agreements. We need to put aside the past alliances and observe the behaviour of countries in the world community today. We cannot continue to have a double standard. The problem we face to date is that Saddam Hussien does not listen to international opposition unless it is backed by military force on his doorstep. If he truly does not want war, he would be more cooperative before there are hundreds of thousands of troops waiting to invade his country. He previously did everything he could to keep inspectors out of his country. Now, as of 3/15/2003, he is almost begging the inspectors to come back. Is it any wonder? That said, we believe we must submit to and follow the rulings of the U.N. The remainder of this page is primarily devoted to pictures of demonstations in America and around the world. These pictures emphasize our point more than words can...American government: There are many of us out here that do NOT like what you're doing in OUR NAME! Under our system of government, we will do what we can by voicing our opinions and by voting our hearts. We will NOT take up arms against you, but beware of the next election - you will be out flat on your face... you sorry bastards! Isn't it time you "Listened to the American Public?"
