VICTORIA'S SECRET "ANGELS"
.
| The Ethical Atheist will regularly provide brief
commentary on current events. Today we look at the Victoria's Secret
Fashion Show which aired on Nov. 15, 2001 (ABC). I congratulate Intimate
Brands Inc. and Victoria's
Secret for "doing their part to piss off the religious right".
I'm sure many conservatives were furious over last night's show.
Not only was the "sinful" bare human form on public display for all the
world to see, but the show made a mockery of religion.
Victoria's Secret chose to display their most prized designs on the
bodies of Angels. The Angels flew over the crowd while a gospel group
wailed out "Hallelujah". At least one of the Angels wore a
cross around her neck. Religious conservatives can't stand nudity
and I'm sure they felt as if they had been slapped across the face to see
it on national TV, wrapped in a divine veil of angelic mythology.
Victoria's Secret is brave and I applaud them for that!
