ON THE RELIGIOUS CRITICISMS BY THIS SITE
(a response to frequent emails)

We are often accused of bashing Christianity or religions in general.  While it is true that there are many articles critical of religion on this site, we completely respect the rights of ALL to hold any view they choose.  That is one of the underlying principles in America.  At times, however, our frustration is evident because atheists do NOT enjoy this freedom.  We are often shunned, considered evil, considered immoral and unethical.  Many in the religious community promote unfavorable views of atheists.  We are the subject of religious discrimination and intolerance that, at times, leads to great conflict.  An atheist in Texas who opposed religious views being posted in public schools received a burning cross in his lawn stating that he should burn in hell.  A past presidents (i.e. Bush Sr.) stated that he considers atheists to be non-citizens.

There are many examples of discrimination against atheists and any anti-religious or Christian-bashing tones on this site are a result of our frustration in being the constant target of these attacks.  Please don't take it personally!

The "Humor" section on The Ethical Atheist is particularly guilty of Christianity bashing.  We admit it.  If this offends you, don't read it.  It is intended for other atheists to give them a diversionary laugh from the daily grind and frustration of discrimination.

LIGHTEN UP...   PLEASE!
