A Day in the Life of the Mail
(a rant...)
It had been such a fine day.  I had worked passionately on my love... fossils.  I had prepared and documented fossils and their paleoenvironments from a time just after the K-T extinction (of 65.5 million years ago).  Then, I worked in the lab on a Diplodocus skeleton until late in the evening.  Finally, I took a break from it all to sort through the day's mail.  That was a mistake...

LETTER #1:  YMCA of the Rockies
Hopefully, you all know that YMCA stands for Young Men's Christian Association.  So, it shouldn't surprise you that the promotional package included the following statements:
More than ever, we need places where we can find inspiration...
where God's creation is revealed.
YMCA of the Rockies puts Christian principles into practice...
by serving conferences of a religious nature.
The information states that, "Alcoholic beverages are not sold on the grounds and may not be used."  Of course you can visit them on the net (and you should tell them how you feel) at http://www.ymcarockies.org.  And, yes, that ".org" means they are a special non-profit organization exempt from taxes.  That tax revenue and tax benefits are made up by people like yourself.  You can go to Camp Chief Ouray - "an adventurous playground dedicated to the growth in spirit, mind and body in a Christian environment."  Or, you can "enjoy" the recreational activities which include "Worship Services" and "Bible Studies".  Need I say more?

LETTER #2:  First Baptist Christian School

In this letter, from a Southern relative, I am requested to order magazines to help fund the Baptist Christian School.  You may know that the Baptist Church is responsible for teaching our children more lies than probably any other source on Earth.  They teach our children that Moses was a kind, loving man - not the mass murderer he truly was.  They teach the Adam & Eve, creationist agenda where humans were created from dust and the Earth is 8-10 thousands years old.  [Can you believe that some high school students still do not believe that males and females have the same number of ribs!]
My Baptist School gets to keep 40 cents of every subscription dollar!
As I ponder what I could do with my life and my money, helping a Baptist Church contaminate fragile young minds is somewhere slightly above being burned at the stake.  If the human race is to survive, it will be ONLY by distancing ourselves from the radical religious right and their message of hate and intolerance.

But, let's look at the magazines they are promoting in the attached brochure...

LETTER #3:  Boy Scouts - Pacific Legal Foundation

In the next letter, I'm asked to help the Boy Scouts defend themselves in court.  For what?  As the letter starts...
The Boy Scouts are under a nationwide attack!
"Government bureaucrats and radical groups are attacking the Boy Scouts!"  It seems that the Boy Scouts Oath states that, "On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God....  to be morally straight."  The Boy Scouts have come under fire because they want to exclude anyone who is homosexual.  This has brought the wrath and lawsuits of the "government and radical groups."  I, as it happens, am not attracted to the same sex.  But, should the Boy Scouts become the ruler of 'morally straight' behavior?  And, doesn't our country and our Constitution (& Amendments) actually protect this behavior. [The D.C. Commission on Human Right said so and ordered the Scouts to admit both homosexual men and to pay each $50,000 in compensatory damages.]  As a side note, the Boy Scouts have received funds from local United Way chapters.  This issue has made United Way deny any funds to Scouts because of their stance on 'morally straight behavior'.  As with the Baptist Church, I rank funding the Boy Scouts and their legal defense fund just slightly above being burned at the stake.

LETTER (Magazine) #4:  National Geographic Magazine
Thank you for ending the madness!  Finally a source of science and education that isn't asking me for money to do the "Lord's Work".

If I had a prayer to say after reading the day's mail, it would be...

"God, please protect me from your followers!"
